>>layers+ layers + layers<<

these shoes are courtesy of fashion designer julia kaldy. the project was titled ‘unibody’ to draw attention to how the lower body silhouette depends on the shoe height. the nude-on-nude colors were so used to emphasize the idea of the shoes merging with the body.

notice how the shoe skin covers and is rooted onto the heel..nice.

>>COLLECT Showroom for contemporary fashion<<

For the third time, Arne Eberle press+sales presents ‘Collect – Showroom for contemporary fashion‘ during Berlin Fashion Week. Collect Showroom stands for a community created through the bundled creativity and the skills brought in by all participating labels while pointing out the individuality and uniqueness of every single designer at the same time.

Also in this season, Collect features some of the best of what is going on in fashion in the German capital. With its small and exclusive selection of twelve Berlin-based labels and a strong focus on high quality in design and workmanship, Collect will give an exciting overview of Berlin‘s fashion scene, ranging from newcomers presenting their first collection to well-established designers who are internationally known.

For the third season of Collect presents:

Collect Showroom will take place on 06 – 08 July 2011, from 10 am – 7 pm at L 40 in Linienstr. 40, next to Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz in Berlin Mitte. Also this time, Collect will be connected to the official Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week shuttle service which will make it easy to travel to other important locations such as the Mercedes-Benz tent on ‚Strasse des 17. Juni‘ or to the site of Premium trade show.

Daniel Ramirez Perez has designed the visual appearance for this season’s Collect Showroom. Every time, Collect’s look is designed by a different up-and-coming graphic designer giving a young design talent the possibility to showcase their work and interpretation of Collect Showroom and to create an individual yet consistent corporate identity.

maurizio anzeri’s website is under consctruction…so in the meanwhile satisfy/enlighten yourselves with this:

“I work with sewing, embroidery and drawing to explore the essence of signs in their physical manifestation. I take inspiration from my own personal experience and observation of how, in other cultures, bodies themselves are treated as living graphic symbols. I then use sewing and embroidery in a further attempt to re-signify, and mark the space with a man-made sign, a trace. I am interested in people’s stories and histories, and the relation between intimacy and the outer world. I have been working with hair for the past few years. I stitch and sew hair together until it becomes a sculpture. I see hair as a metaphorical medium to represent bodily boundaries, the embodiment of space.”

i copy/pasted her statement, because i could not have articulated her aesthetic any better:

“

My work is a mosaic of fragments, collected experiences, information, and images. This mosaic is both ideological and visual. I like to begin with an idea that I allow to develop unhindered to encompass anything from the serious to the absurd. No thought is isolated and the simplest can build upon itself. Layers of connected thoughts revealed in a succession of images link and multiply in evolving variations. In my recent work, for example, I sometimes begin with just a word, but already this word comes with many meanings and connotations. Then I make a connection, a thin bridge, between each word and its images, and other perhaps abstract and veiled yet related ideas. My artworks are often labyrinths of intricate wordplay. I want the words to be read as fleeting and visual impressions that interact with the other stitched images. The figures in my work in combination with the words form a running commentary.

In the Armor and Facade series, I want to “armor” modern society. These artworks are about how we protect and present ourselves. I begin with simple ordinary ready-made garments that I deconstruct; armor with quilting, imagery, and text; and then rebuild. Garments have their mundane yet necessary purpose to protect us from the elements. But they are obviously more than that in every society. They are our “decoration”; they express and reflect who we are as individuals and as a culture.
