1. the view outside our living room at sundown ♥ 2. my desk 3. ‘Short-sighted’ an acrylic painting by me 4. the painting amidst everyday addictions.. 5. black + white tastes good Based on a collage filled with magazine cut outs this painting portrays the short-sighted perception of false bravado + machismo. The shades of yellow are symbolic of the cowardice that lies masked beneath these surface deep attitudes. Following this train-of-thought I decided to highlight the skin tones of the center-front lady; in order to parallel the idea of magnifying the hidden shades of her persona, accenting her true base colors….the result adds an unshakeable tribal core to the painting.  The glasses further emphasize her need for greater clarity, and the tilted, imbalanced vertical lines push this idea.  Her oversized hat is literally + metaphorically an all-consuming vacuum that presents the-blind-leading-the-blind mentality; a society of individuals so concerned w/ the opinions of others that they feel impelled to copy/paste regardless of whether or not they find a trend truly tasteless. Laaaaame. For example in Mean Girls (which by the way is an AWESOME film) the Queen Bee, Regina George, finds her tee defaced. Unfazed she continues to wear it despite her bra showing through two peep holes… the school follows suite. But like I said, it’s short-lived, just like the overly bright/ripe fruit in the painting. xxx ps. it’s incredible how ideas just evolve….the above was supposed to just be
>> 2d paintings as good as a blind man’s braille + shades, lines, shapes, designs that draw the viewer to filter for socio-cultural undertones + mash + commercial logos + plastic wristbands + a new character + new heights + some brazilian humor << DALEK + ONONO = SALT + PEPPER james marshall better known as dalek, + onono (the newly born fashion brand (2009)) headed by ademar ferrera) are responsible for the magnificent pieces above. They complement each other, maybe they should do a collaboration…I think they should, especially since onono favors doing collaborations with a Ton of people; his previous collection involved 7 other artistically-inclined folks (two of whom pioneer the contemporary dance group desaba). It says so Here. soooooooo what do you think? Yes, no? let your fingers do the talking down below…anyways, I surfed up on james marshall, found his site, spent about 30mins soaking up all his artwork, checked out his bio, and this is what i found: he’s a tattooed skateboarder from a military family, hit a milestone when he worked for takashi murakami (for painting), settled on a minimalist+flat style w/ which he developed his famed SPACE MONKEY, his masterpieces glorify ‘a profusion + hyper-abundance of color + planes of space’ + lastly he describes the push/pull forces of contemporary life as ‘an ever-expanding, contracting, barely breathing universe, contemplating suffocation while simultaneously hover[s] over the consequences of not exploring further the options that no longer l[ie] waiting in the back of the coatroom.’ I consider his perception brighter than sunshine. And it will be so, for the next twenty years. xxx |
