“I work with sewing, embroidery and drawing to explore the essence of signs in their physical manifestation. I take inspiration from my own personal experience and observation of how, in other cultures, bodies themselves are treated as living graphic symbols. I then use sewing and embroidery in a further attempt to re-signify, and mark the space with a man-made sign, a trace. I am interested in people’s stories and histories, and the relation between intimacy and the outer world. I have been working with hair for the past few years. I stitch and sew hair together until it becomes a sculpture. I see hair as a metaphorical medium to represent bodily boundaries, the embodiment of space.”

31 comments astral, ,)% %edit(' | ', 'Edit', 'brighter than sunshine, ,)% %edit(' | ', 'Edit', 'much needed, ,)% %edit(' | ', 'Edit', 'shop, ,)% %edit(' | ', 'Edit', 'sos Print this Page>>brilliance of stefan giftthaler ‘une beaute reusse’ + steel + multifaceted crystal + fleeting fairytales + imaginary friends + in a daze + braided leather + somber palette + knots, tangles, chains + watercolor tees that look as if they had been painted by the amaterish hand of a child + a tilted world w/ open ends<< soooo today started at 3am, my alarm went off, + for about 5 mins i watched the silhouettes patterning against the wall as car lights went by…until eventually those gray scale color-blocks turned into soft borderline appearances at the point of sleep. fast forward to 7am;  oatmeal heaven; then jumped into the pool and did what i was supposed to do yesterday; lie on the bottom with a slab of rock on my stomach, watch the surreal breaking lights + hear nothing. jumped back out, pushed my painting deadlines to next week + resolved to get it done before the end of the month…then burned time by flitting through luisaviaroma, notjustalabel (again), cooperative designs, other ppl’s blogs,  burberry collections dating all the way back to lucky 2008, creatures of comfort, the porter empire, newly discovered stantonjames.com, twitter + raphael young’s head-over-heels heels. then i realized my winter clothes still needed to be bought so i ran all over till my flats wore out…so tomorrow i’m going flat hunting.
